Have you heard of Velvet Moustache? You may remember them from my post about my favourite Montreal Etsy sellers or my YouTube video where I show off their pillows; they make super adorable, high-quality pillows as well as other goodies for the home. It goes without saying that I'm a big fan. I mean... they make animal pillows that make my home look like... well... my home.
I've been following them on Facebook for a while and not long ago, saw that they did a custom order for someone. Custom pet pillows - is this real life?! This got me super excited because I always wanted something to immortalize my lost kitty, Gizmo, but never knew how to do it. I talked it over with the BF because losing Gizmo was a very big event for us, and seeing a pillow of him daily may cause some sad feelings to resurface. In the end, we agreed that it was a nice way to remember him and would make a nice addition to our home.
The process was incredibly simple, and Majorie, the brainchild and super-sweet maker behind Velvet Moustache, was awesome to deal with. I started by sending my custom request along with several pictures of Gizmo. I was then asked what qualities were important to the design: obviously he needed that pink nose, tall ears, and that distinct little spot on his nose.
A week or so passed, and Majorie let me know that my pillow was ready. I was super excited to pay this place a visit: imagine how magical a wall full of these cuties would be! And it did not disappoint in the least.
Located in the Grover building on rue Parthenais and Rachel, Velvet Moustache's atelier houses hundreds of their beautifully unique rainbow of pillows. I'll say it - I got super giddy when I saw that massive wall of awesome. And guess what? So back to my custom pillow experience... When I stepped into the atelier, I immediately spotted my baby. There he was sitting on the shelf, with his pink nose and big ears. I'm so incredibly happy with this lil' guy! I hugged the pillow for the longest time and something about it just made me feel some closure over losing Gizmo. Maybe that sounds cheesy, but it honestly brought some peace to the abrupt loss I experienced two years ago. Majorie and her team really captured his essence, and the little details really made this pillow extra special. They even included stripes on his tail, pink paws and green eyes!
And my favourite part: his name is embroidered on a little butt patch! Gizmo pillow now lives on the daybed in my office, keeping me company all day long. He's the first and last thing I see when I start and end my work day and keeps me all smiles.
